THE spotlight is set to shine on the Burtonwood Amateur Music and Drama Society next month when it marks 30 years of service in the town by honouring its members at an awards ceremony.

Since its launch in 1984, the group has set the stage alight with 18 musicals, 26 plays and 14 pantomimes.

Founding member and chairman Brian Maffitt said: "Looking back now, and seeing how far we have come, I think we are on a par with any other amateur group working.

"There have been numerous members over the years, participating in some capacity or other and over 36,000 have made up our audiences – not bad for a small village."

As well as fining tuning members' musical and acting talents, the society is also determined to make a real difference in the community and has raised £5,500 to support the three churches in Burtonwood and the Mayor of Warrington's chosen charities.

But the club, who rehearse and perform at the Burtonwood Catholic Club and St Michael’s Parish Hall, would not have been able to keep its doors open without a helping hand from others.

Brian added that the society will always be grateful to the Warrington Borough Council, the parish council and Coalfields Regeneration Trust for the funding they have provided.
