WESTVALE House Care Home in Old Hall held a ‘Best of British’ garden party to celebrate two exciting developments for residents.
The home on Old Hall Road has been presented with an Investors in People award, which marks best practice in staff management and training.
And after a barbecue, games and music, Great Sankey Parish Council donated a new bench for the home’s new sensory garden.
Cheryl Wakefield, Great Sankey Parish Council clerk, said: “Everyone wants to provide facilities and amenities for young people, but the parish council also wanted to help another potentially vulnerable and sometimes overlooked section of the community, the elderly and frail.
“This was the thinking that prompted the council to ask the three care homes in our parish what we could do to provide a bit of enjoyment for the older folks.”
Clrs Keith Gleave, Jim Regan and Roy and Liz Smith were on hand to present the home with a brass plaque to go on the garden furniture.
Sylvia Sloan, Westvale House general manager, said: “Every year Barchester Homes do either a garden party or a fete and this year our theme was ‘Best of British’.
“We planted the new sensory garden which is part of the Barchester in Bloom competition.
“It’s absolutely beautiful and we have done it all with donations from past residents and their relatives who wanted to pay for flowers or plants to remember family who stayed here.”
