TWO selfless friends have decided to Brave the Shave in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Sonya Pennycook, of Fairclough Street, Burtonwood, and Adam McNeil, of Maple Road, Winwick, have vowed to shave their hair off to a number one cut to raise vital fund for the charity.

Bar worker Sonya, aged 30, said: "After many of months wondering about whether to do it, I was inspired to do it after speaking to my family and friends.

"I chose to do this for Macmillan after seeing the work and the support of the team when both my auntie and a friend became ill.

"I am quite scared of what other people might think but I am also really excited at the same time as i am doing this for a great cause.

"I have never done anything this big before."

Adam, who works at Winwick Leisure Centre with Sonya, said the decision to face the clippers was an easy one as he knew the money would be going to a worthy cause.

The 23-year-old said: "I felt I needed a change in my life and what's better than changing someone else's life for the better at the same time.

"I'm a bit worried how I will look without my long hair or my trademark ponytail.

"But there's always a first time to try new things and experiences. It makes it easier knowing it's for a good cause."

Brave the shave is a fundraising campaign launched by Macmillan Cancer Support.

Every penny raised will help the charity to give people with cancer and their families the specialised support they need, when they need it most.

The shave will take place on September 4 from 7pm at Winwick Leisure Centre.
