Carnival fever set to sweep over Winwick

CARNIVAL fever is set to take over Winwick this weekend when the annual festival returns.

On Saturday Winwick Carnival will open for the 15th year with plenty in store for visitors.

But with 12 months of planning it has certainly not been an easy feat for the team making sure the fair is bigger and better than previous years.

Committee secretary Kathryn Howard said: "We have planned it all with a skeleton team.

"But I think it makes it all the more impressive that we have pulled it off.

“We hope more people will sign up to help next year.”

Back by popular demand is Bob Hogg's Lamb National which has promised to be one of the more unusual races you see this year.

The team at Vale Royal Falconry will also be putting on flying demonstrations for visitors.

There will also be performances from band Loor a Los Heroes, singer Tony Gill and a show from Legends Dance Academy.

Carnival favourites Punch and Judy are also set to make an appearance.

Guests also have the chance to win an Apple watch, gym membership and a collection of wines in a raffle.

"We hope that there is something for everyone. Now we just hope the weather will turn up too," said Kathryn.

There will also be a selection of stalls selling a variety of refreshments and food including donuts, pick n mix and a carvery.

Chainsaw carvings and bungee trampolines are just a few of the more unusual events that have been planned.

The carnival will open at Winwick playing fields on Myddleton Lane from 12pm to 5pm.

Entry is £1.50 but children under 10 are free.

Kathryn added: "We have done all the hard work now but we still need people to help set up on the Friday or clean up on Sunday."
