CELEBRATIONS have been in full flow to mark the one-year anniversary of Cheeky Cherubs Play Group in Burtonwood.

The group, which meets at the Burtonwood Community Centre, has gone to strength to strength since it opened its doors one year ago.

Joan Hutchinson, of Perrins Road, is one of five women to organise the launch of the group and help run it on a weekly basis.

The 75-year-old said: "We all have experience in this area. Some of us have been teachers and scout leaders.

"We decided to set it up as more of a support group for parents and not just as a place where children come to play.

"We have had a couple of dental nurses and health professional who have come to the group and given support and advice.

"It's for parents to ask questions. It has been doing quite well since it opened. It's thriving."

Around 20 to 30 children attend the group each week, which is held on a Friday from 9.20am to 11.20am.

As part of the anniversary celebration, the group travelled to Stockley Farm Park in Northwich where they arrived in time to see a lamb being born.

"A coach load of 50 us had a lovely day out and some of us watched a lamb being born and it was named Cherub

"Shortly afterwards a calf was born and named Cheeky by the farm. The children were thrilled."

The group is £1 per child and there is no need to book.

Older children are welcome to attend during the school holidays.

Joan added: "It is a great way of bringing people together and is a group where people support each other."
