App launched by Winwick charity

A WINWICK business is set to launch a new app on Apple to help tenants stay connected.

Engage app will go live in Apple Store and Google Play on May 1.

Bosses at Fortunatus Housing Solutions on Winwick Quay say this will allow tenants to stay more informed.

Communications officer Sian Matthews said: "We are a registered charity who supply supported housing solutions for vulnerable adults with mental health problems and learning disabilities.

"This new app Engage will enable our tenants to contact us via the app and look at local information and the latest news."

Tot's battle inspires fundraiser

THE kind-hearted team at HC-One Callands have raised £170 for a cause which is close to the hearts of many who work at the care home.

Cake and coffee were in plentiful supply when the team hosted an afternoon for a worthwhile cause.

Activities coordinator Sally Minshull said: "This cause is close to our hearts because the little boy it revolves around is the grandson of our catering manager Loraine Flinn."

Eddie Flinn was born with Craniosynostosis, which is a birth defect that affects one in every 1,800 to 2,500 babies.

Sally added: In Eddie's case he had metopic Craniosynostosis which meant he was born with a triangular shaped head and a tiny soft spot which closed a few weeks after birth.

"Not a lot is known about this condition, even by medical professionals, so it's great to raise awareness for this condition and let other families out there know that there is support groups and funds to help with things like travel costs.

"There are only four centres in the UK that deal with Craniosynostosis."

Following the fundraiser, Eddie's mum Alicia said: "I can't thank Alder Hey and their staff for all they did for my little boy. The Cranio team were amazing.

"I also am so grateful for the support we received from Lucy's Head Start, who are a Cranio charity.

"They kept us going through the toughest hours and made sure we got through our journey to the other side of Craniosynostosis.

"A big thank you to everyone at Callands Care Home for their continued support as a family and for the fundraising they have done."
