BURTONWOOD councillor Terry O'Neill has been elected as the national chairman of the Industrial Communities Alliance.
The council leader said he was delighted to take on the role at a full council meeting earlier this month.
The alliance brings together two established groups - Coalfield Communities Campaign and Steel Action.
The group campaigns on behalf of Britain's industrial areas to the Government and EU bodies.
During the meeting at the Town Hall, Clr O'Neill added that he was 'honoured' as chairman of The Wolves Foundation to attend the Man of Steel Awards, where the charity was awarded the title of foundation of the year.
He said: "This award marks a fantastic year for The Wolves Foundation and shows the influence that rugby league and sport in general can have on the community."
