A TEN-YEAR-OLD school boy has proved you are never too young to help make a difference.

Kind-hearted Joel Turner, from Old Hall, has raised hundreds of pounds for the Salvation Army after successfully organising a charity football match earlier this month.

His mum, Leanne Turner said: “I am really proud of him. This was all his idea and he was determined to make it happen.”

The St Philip Westbrook pupil, who is a diehard Everton fan, was inspired to plan the fundraiser after hearing about the vital work of the Salvation Army at its children’s club, which he attends on a Friday evening at the charity’s base in the town centre.

The year six pupil did not waste any time in making his plans come to life and started the ball rolling on his first fundraiser as soon as he returned home.

From creating posters to organising the tournament, the year six pupil was more than happy to spend his spare time making sure the staring whistle went off on time.

The match took place on the playing fields of his primary school on October 12 with around 30 friends making an appearance.

“It was a lot of fun and everyone seemed to enjoy it. I want to make it an annual thing,” said football mad Joel.

The fun day, which also included games such as beat the goalie, raised almost £250 for the charity’s big collection campaign.
