A Co-operative shop could be set to open in the centre of Burtonwood on Chapel Lane, the Warrington Guardian has learned.

Blueprints resubmitted to Warrington Borough Council - after they were refused earlier this year - seek planning permission to build a single storey shop with ATM machine at the front and 12 car parking spaces.

If approved, the new store will be located on the car park next to the Chapel House pub, which will retain five car parking spaces.

This would also lead to the closure of the Co-operative store on Mercer Street.

The current location of the shop on Mercer Street has 'created a number of highway and pedestrian safety problems' due to on-street parking and the fleet of delivery vehicles, it has been claimed.

The developer believes the proposal will bring ‘a tired site back to economic vitality and viability’ as well as providing the opportunity to retain the Chapel House pub as a community local.
