THE sun was shining when St Oswald’s Church and Winwick Primary School held their annual summer gala last month.

Nine-year-old Amy Nicholls was crowned Rose Queen and she was joined on the day by her attendants Isabella Smithson, aged seven, Maria Smithson, aged nine, Millie Anslow, aged six, and Keira Smithson, aged four.

There were plenty of games to keep visitors busy and stalls for guests to enjoy.

The favourite entertainment arrived when head teacher Ian Price was held hostage in the stocks.

Mr Price could be seen dripping from head to toe after he was attacked with wet sponges by youngsters.

It is expected that around £3,000 will have been raised with funds to be shared between the school and the church.

St Oswald’s Church is a grade one listed building and is currently in the second phase of a project to restore the roof following death watch beetle infestation.
