Mum-of-two says she will miss experience of people ‘less gobby’ than herself

BIDDING farewell to her job as the councillor for Westbrook was bittersweet for Labour’s Jan Davidson.

The mum-of-two, who has since passed the baton over to Liberal Democrats’ Stefan Krizanac after he was elected in the recent local elections, described the experience as ‘worthwhile’ but said there were certain aspects that she would not miss.

She said: “Being a councillor is all about speaking up for people who aren’t as gobby as me and making sure their voices are heard. I will miss that aspect of it all.

“I once helped two ladies who were having problems with drugs in a house next door. They were so thankful for the help I gave them.

“It was something that made me feel very humbled and it was very rewarding.”

The retired nurse, who spent more than 34 years working in the NHS, was no stranger to the Town Hall following her election in 2011, having previously been a councillor for Great Sankey South and Orford.

But the veteran councillor was left disappointed earlier this year when she failed to be re-selected to stand for the seat.

“I was sad about it but you have to move on,” said the grandmother of one, who is now looking forward to spending more time with her family.

“What I am proud of is that Warrington is ahead of the game for its services and facilities for older people.”

Jan, who has worked with Clr Krizanac on Burtonwood and Westbrook Parish Council, has nothing but praise for her successor, who will now work alongside Judith Guthrie (Westbrook – Lab) to represent area.
