£10,000 charity target for bootcamp members

MEMBERS from a bootcamp class are pitching in to try and raise £10,000 for charity.

Regulars at Nicola Rae's Rae of Fitness bootcamp will take part in a series of events this year including a colour run and and Tough Mudder this year to raise the total for a number of different charities.

The group, which meets at Kings University Academy every Tuesday and Thursday, has already achieved its first success after 22 of them competed in Stroke Association race at Delamere Forest.

Nicola said: "Doing events like these help the members to keep focused and gives them something else to aim for.

"The money we raise will go to different charities, some events have recommended charities to fundraise for and some of the member shave chosen charities for conditions they have been affected for."

Nicola also holds a free run on a Saturday morning from 10am at Woolston Weir.

NEETs get to grips with mechanics

ASPIRING mechanics are being given the opportunity to build their own go karts thanks to a community venture.

The four-week scheme, run by Warrington Borough Council, Golden Gates Housing Trust and Warrington Collegiate, gives young people not in education, training or employment (NEETS) the skills and experience to explore motor mechanics as a career.

Participants will be able to build and ride their own kart at a race track as well as being given specialist support with their CVs, job hunting and interview skills by the council’s careers for young people team.

Cllr Jean Carter, executive board member for children and young people said: “This project is a great example of how we are encouraging young people in Warrington to develop valuable skills and experience to boost their confidence.

"We will be evaluating the success of the project and hope to roll it out in other areas of the borough.”

The groups will meet at St Margaret’s Community Hub on Wednesdays from 4pm until 6pm so to sign up contact Becky Keeling on 01925 424900 or email rkeeling@warrington.gov.uk.
