ANOTHER pedestrian crossing to Orford Park will be considered by Warrington Borough Council, following complaints.

As revealed in the Warrington Guardian, resident Simon Pickett wrote to the Town Hall to express concerns children were at risk crossing busy roads to reach the park and hub.

Mark Tune, traffic management, road safety and highway adoptions manager, said: "The assessments for pedestrian crossings are undertaken on an annual basis across the Borough with priority being given to those sites where the assessment identifies greatest potential conflict between pedestrians and vehicles.

"In respect of crossing Orford Green near the junction of Poplars Avenue, I can advise that this location has not been assessed previously.

"I will arrange for this location to be added to the list of locations to be assessed and considered for next year’s capital programme."

Mr Pickett, of Alamein Crescent, said he had witnessed children who risked being hit by traffic when running across busy roads.

He called for several new crossings to be installed.

Mr Tune said there was not enough 'pedestrian activity' to warrant crossings on Hallfields Road or Withers Avenue, following a survey in March, last year.

However, a new crossing could be considered on Alder Lane if a location can be pinpointed.

He added: "In respect of Alder Lane, there are existing uncontrolled crossing points to aid pedestrian movements.

The surveys required for the assessments capture pedestrian movements within 50m of a specific location, where we believe the desire line is for pedestrians to cross.

"From your local knowledge, if you could indicate where on Alder Lane you believe the greatest pedestrians movements are, I could arrange for this location to also be assessed for next year’s programme."
