AN ORFORD student has won funding to set up a radio station for young people in Warrington.

Daniel Miller, aged 22, an interactive media student at Warrington Collegiate, has won cash from O2's 'Think Big With O2' project.

It means Daniel has £300 to form the Vibe Youth Radio station in the town, aimed at the 13-25-year-old age group.

The budding producer was successful as he has already set up, and run, the student radio station at the college on Long Lane.

Daniel said: "This is awesome.

" I’ve got huge plans for the new station starting with the existing radio team from Warrington Collegiate.

"Vibe Radio will have an impact on the youth of Warrington and beyond.

"The future is in online radio, as there’s already a sizeable audience for online radio, but there’s lots more we can do.”

Daniel said his motto for Vibe will be to 'bring the heart back into radio’.

His aim is to work with community leaders to involve young people with the station, offering voluntary roles for jobs like presenting, or looking after music.

But with only a small pot of money to rely on, Daniel knows he needs to think carefully.

He said: "I need to spend the money wisely.

"We are creating a film and poster campaign which we will use when we visit local schools and youth centres to get young people on board.

"We have already attracted members through the website chat to join the team.

"Our tour will get lots more young people involved to join us and make Vibe Radio their own, reflecting their music tastes and interests as well as local and national news and events.”

Daniel added he is aiming to go on the air in the late spring of 2015.
