Nursery class receives
thumbs up from education
watchdog after inspection

A CLASS at Sandy Lane Nursery which cares for toddlers has been backed by Ofsted.

In an inspection report published on August 1, the education watchdog praised Rainbow Rooms.

It offers specialist early years provision for children aged two, at the nursery on Sandy Lane.

In the report, Insp Alison Regan said: “The provider demonstrates a thorough understanding of how children learn through their play.

“Staff know how to effectively observe, plan and assess children's progress from their starting points, to ensure they make good progress in their learning.

“The provider demonstrates a clear understanding of the procedures to follow should there be any concerns regarding children’s welfare.

“Staff are effectively trained and have a good knowledge of how to protect children from potential harm.

“A detailed safeguarding policy is in place, which is shared with parents and carers.”

The outdoor play area, which features a wooded area, was also praised by Ofsted, along with the ‘safe, warm environment’.

Staff were also trained to ensure the needs of children were met, said the report.

Usually Ofsted inspections see a school or nursery given a score of one to four, or ‘outstanding’ to ‘inadequate’.

However, Ofsted said no children were enrolled at the time of inspection on July 8.

As a result, a score could not be given, only guidance on whether the ‘requirements of registration’ are met.

Mrs Regan added: “The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation.”
