MORE than £380,000 is set to be spent improving play areas and sport facilities in Bruche and Woolston, the council has announced.

Warrington Borough Council has revealed proposals for where the cash boost will be spent.

It will see £110,645 spent in Bruche Park, £190,000 in Woolston Park, and £38,000 in Woolston Urban Ecology Park, by 2016.

In a letter to Poulton with Fearnhead Parish Council seen by the Warrington Guardian, the borough council proposes exactly where the money will be spent.

Included on the list is the refurbishment of the play area and tree ‘management’ to ‘open up views onto Manchester Road in Bruche Park’.

Revamping the ‘play builder’ in Woolston Park is also planned, along with moving the Brickhurst Way play area closer to the bandstand, and replacing play equipment next to Poulton Crescent.

The money was secured in 2013, as part of the deal to turn the former police training camp in Bruche into a housing development. Work there is currently under way.

Rachel Waggett, parks programme manager at Warrington Borough Council, said: “There are a number of potential projects that could be accomplished within this budget and timescale.

“All costs are estimated at this early stage.

“We want to take the opportunity to input the views of people who use these spaces.”

Poulton with Fearnhead Parish Council said discussions were ongoing as to where money will be spent.

Clr Ian Johnson said the council would support a larger proportion of the cash pot being spent on the New Cut Lane Ecology Trail, which makes up part of Woolston Urban Ecology Park.
