Police warning after increase in thefts from cars

POLICE say there has been an increase of thieves smashing their way into cars to steal valuables in Woolston.

Officers say that incidents of car theft have gone up in the area over the past month and are urging residents to be careful.

Insp Chris Adkins, from Warrington East NPU, said: “Please do not leave valuables on show and provide an easy opportunity for thieves, park in well-lit areas and it may sound obvious but ensure your car is locked and secure.”

The neighbourhood unit also said burglaries continue to be a problem.

Insp Adkins said: “Continue to follow previous advice, secure your property, use your house alarm and use timers on your lights as appropriate.

“Be vigilant. If you see anything suspicious please contact Cheshire Police on 101 or 999 as appropriate.

“If you need crime prevention advice please attend one of crime prevention road shows or contact your local officers direct.”

Police have also been clamping down on off-road motorbikes.

Officers say they have been reported on the A57 near Woolston.

Youths have been spotted riding bikes around the Manchester Ship Canal, and residents are concerned it is dangerous to pedestrians and dog walkers.

Insp Adkins added: “Warning notices have been issued to individuals involved and land owners have been contacted with a view to securing their sites to prevent them being used in an anti social manner.”
