A CHOIR has jetted into Culcheth – all the way from Soweto in South Africa.
As part of a partnership between Culcheth and Matseliso High Schools, 30 students have come to Culcheth.
Head teacher Martyn Froggett, who visited South Africa last year, said: “I was deeply impressed by the commitment of both students and teachers to high standards of academic achievement.
“I was also inspired by the choir who sang in the playground to welcome the English visitors.”
They sang at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral with hundreds of young people in choirs from across the region.
The choir also worked with Culcheth High School students in preparation for a concert with the Halle Orchestra that has been organised by the town’s education music service.
The youngsters were treated to visits to some of the north west’s biggest and best known tourist attractions.
The group saw snow for the first time when they tried skiing and snowboarding at the Chill Factore in Manchester. They then spent a day in Blackpool where they entertained school students before enjoying some of the town’s tourist attractions.
A trip to Wales took in the medieval Conway Castle followed by a fish and chip supper in Llandudno. And to finish off, they toured the famous Old Trafford.
Mr Froggett said: “We are grateful for the additional support from the north west business community, including BAM Construction, the company building our new school, for their contribution, which has made a real difference to the viability of this trip. Our thanks also to the Chill Factore who are hosting the evening on the slopes for the choir during their trip.”
