A GIRL Guides group, which covers Birchwood, Croft and Gorse Covert, is appealing for new members and leaders.

1st Moss Edge Senior Section's membership, made up of girls aged 14 and over, is running low as several Guides have now left for university.

Leader Jennifer Lyons, aged 27, said: "The girls get to gain awards, qualifications, meet new friends and go on holidays.

"We are going to Copenhagen next year to celebrate 100 years of the Senior Section which will be open to new members."

There are also opportunities for community-minded people to join as Rainbow, Brownie and Guide leaders.

Jennifer added: "Leaders get the chance to help encourage the youth in their community and improve their own skills while teaching the girls.

"The opportunities offered by Girl Guiding for leaders can also look amazing on your CV. We have a member going to Sri Lanka in October to work on a Girlguiding development."

A taster evening for prospective new members will be held over a barbecue at Thomas Risley Church in Locking Stumps on Friday, July 17, from 7pm to 9pm.
