A SALE Sharks player is backing a Birchwood children's charity as part of community funding scheme.

Lock Nathan Hines has praised the work of Brainwave in Dewhurst Road which has links to the club.

He spoke of his support for the charity at the Aviva Community Fund launch.

It is a nationwide initiative from the title sponsor of Aviva Premiership Rugby to offer support and up to £25,000 funding to causes close to fans' hearts.

Brainwave helps more than 600 children with physical, sensory, learning, cognitive and behavioural difficulties.

Nathan, aged 38, said: “There are kids that need help, and there are parents that need help too.

"Obviously as a parent you want to help your kids as much as you can, and in conjunction with Brainwave you can help them with their development, and unlock their potential.

“Most rugby communities are really tight-knit and passionate about the sport, and I think Sale are really in tune with the community."
