SOLDIERS who have served in conflicts past and present will be remembered at a memorial service at Birchwood Shopping Centre.

The Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, David Briggs and The Mayor of Warrington, Clr Ted Finnegan, will be among those laying wreaths on Saturday.

For the first time, children will be planting poppies and Birchwood High School's choir will be on song.

The service, organised by Birchwood Lions, starts shortly before 11am and will be conducted by The Rev Andrew Willett.

It will be attended by the town's schools, Scout and Guide groups, cadets, the Royal British Legion, police, dignitaries and shopping centre staff.

The service will be closed by The Birchwood Community Band.

Over in Culcheth, the service of remembrance is on Sunday at starts at 10am from the British Legion in Wigshaw Lane.

Meanwhile, the Croft community has commemorated the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War with a floral display in Lord Street.
