A BIRCHWOOD worker helped raise £2,412 for two charities after being inspired by the bravery of his nephew.

Jon Lowe's nephew Drew Till, aged three, is one of just 800 people with diamond blackfan anaemia (DBA), a rare genetic bone marrow disorder.

But Drew can now lead a more normal life thanks to his 10-year-old sister Lexie who was a perfect match for a bone marrow transplant at Manchester Children's Hospital in June.

To say thank you, Jon convinced a team at environmental consultancy RPS at Birchwood Park to take part in a 24 hour static bike ride to raise funds for DBA UK and Francis House Children’s Hospice. Jon and his colleagues racked up 2114 km.

Jon, who has worked in Birchwood for nine years, said: "I have not only been inspired by Drew and Lexie but by my sister Helen, brother-in-law Andy, mother Vivien, father John and extended family and friends, as they have all provided Drew with outstanding support.

"Drew’s appearance at the cycle challenge also provided me and my RPS colleagues with the much needed inspiration to keep going for the 24 hours."
