Cacred heart catholic primary school celebrates 40th anniversary

SACRED Heart Catholic Primary School was taken back to the 1970s as staff and pupils celebrated its 40th anniversary at Selby Street.

Children and staff at the Whitecross school wore 1970s-themed fancy dress, with prizes awarded for the best costume.

Past staff and governors were invited to take a look around and reminisce at an open afternoon where photographs from the past 40 years were displayed.

Head teacher Colleen Everett said: “We have all had a fantastic time celebrating the 40th anniversary of Sacred Heart School moving to Selby Street.

“It was wonderful to meet staff who have worked at the school in previous years and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to share memories of their time spent at our school. Here’s to the next 40 years.”

Mayor of Warrington Clr Steve Wright, a former pupil of the school, as well as Mayoress Julie Wright both attended and helped bury a time capsule containing one item deemed important from each class.

Also in attendance was Boy Joseph Nhelko, head teacher of Sacred Heart’s link school in South Africa.

A musical extravaganza evening took place on Tuesday, where children and staff performed for their parents.

All 10 South African head teachers visiting Warrington schools were present at the event.
