CHRISTMAS cheer was in the air as school children and residents marked the completion of a three-month project which has transformed part of Bewsey.

The Molyneux Avenue Triangle, which has been revamped by Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT) - a key partner in the 'Delivering Wellbeing in Bewsey and Dallam' project, was opened by 'Father Christmas' during a festive-themed day.

During the event, Dallam Community Primary School children got to meet the man himself, while seasonal games, carols, mince pies and hot drinks were on offer.

The location had previously been described as an eyesore by some residents , with issues including fly-tipping and dilapidation of surfacing and edgings on the rise.

The refurbishment work to the triangle is part of plans to improve the look and feel of the whole area and is part of a wider project by the Warrington Partnership to redevelop and revitalise the area.

“What a great Christmas gift and what a great day," said cllr Pat Wright (LAB - Bewsey and Whitecross), executive board member for health and wellbeing and adult services.

"Transforming this area really does mean a lot to local people and is worth the investment as it will have a positive impact on people’s everyday lives and improve the community for the better.”

Cllr Kate Hannon (LAB - Orford), executive board member for leisure, community and culture, added: “Absolutely brilliant – that is how I would describe this scheme which represents another success story for the project."

The work, which was completed by Groundwork Cheshire, has seen a remodelled grass area with new pathways and edging.

Additional green elements have been added with trees and hedges, improving the biodiversity of the area, while at the same time having a positive impact on the whole community.

Managers from GGHT also got in on the act by painting the fences that back onto the triangle.

“It is fantastic to see the opening of the new triangle today," said GGHT chairman Roy Smith.

"It sends a clear message that we are committed to improving the lives of the residents who live there.”
