A LONE applicant wants to build an underground car storage facility on the site of the former Stretton Air Field.

Plans have been submitted to create the car parking area in two parts with a general car storage area for dozens of vehicles and a seperate display area for a smaller number of motors.

There are also plans for an attached office area above ground, with a meeting room and archive room and a further 15 parking spaces.

In the application designers say the upper level would be a car display area adding: “The car display takes the form of a drum and allows for more spacious viewing of cars in a gallery environment; the cars are very much seen as works of art and this is as much a private art gallery as it is anything else.”
