A FORMER apprentice based on Redrow's Stretton Green development has scooped two top honours.

Liam Sargeant, aged 20, was named England's apprentice of the year and overall Great Britain apprentice of the year at the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) apprenticeship awards ceremony held in London.

The Great Sankey resident, who is now a trainee site assistant with the construction firm, has impressed bosses with a string of awards since joining the team.

Last year he won the apprentice and new starter of the year title at the esteemed Builder and Engineer Awards.

He has also been named as apprentice of the year by Redrow and Your Move's apprentice of the year.

He said: "I'm honoured to receive this award – being nominated was great but to win feels fantastic.

"My apprenticeship has taught me so much and given me a real confidence boost.

"The opportunity to train while earning a wage makes learning a set of skills a reality and I'd encourage anyone thinking about starting an apprenticeship to give it a go.

"I would like to thank everyone at CITB and at Redrow for all they have done for me."

Redrow director Karen Jones added: "We're very proud of Liam who already, at such a young age, has a host of titles under his belt.

"His latest awards are a huge achievement.

"He's a fantastic ambassador for the company, helping us to promote apprenticeships to other young people and show them how hard work is recognised.

"We look forward to seeing his career progress to great heights.

"We'd also like to thank the team at Brickwork 365 for the valuable help and guidance they have given to Liam while he has worked alongside them on site during his apprenticeship."

Redrow was also named Great Britain's large employer of the year at the event.
