APPLETON Thorn residents have again expressed their disapproval against plans to build homes in the centre of their village.

Bloor Homes has held consultations about its proposal, which would see up to 90 homes built on Stretton Road, but it is understood a planning application is yet to be made.

Residents protested against the developer’s housing bid last month and some spoke of their anger at last Tuesday’s Appleton Parish Council meeting.

Campaign Against Ruining our Environment (CARE) spokesman Kevin McAloon is wary of the problem but offered hope.

“Bloor Homes pencilled in a meeting with the field owner a few weeks ago but they cancelled it,” he said.

“I am not sure whether they are backing off completely or slowing down until the dust settles.

“Bloor has got a very impressive land bank and this development may be another land bank that they want – they may just be biding their time.”

Appleton Liberal Democrat councillor, Peter Walker, said he was bemused by Bloor’s plans after their lack of movement.

“I don’t know what Bloor’s intentions are, they have to go through the planning process and it won’t happen until they do,” he said.

Bloor are offering residents the opportunity to be part of a Design Working Group to help shape proposals for the potential new housing in the village.

The group would be made up of a selection of volunteers who would have the chance to work with the development team to finalise the plans on the site.

Mark Waite, strategic planning director at Bloor Homes, said: “We take consultation with the local community very seriously.

“You don’t need any particular skills or expertise, just enthusiasm.”

Villagers are keen to avoid losing the field where developments would be made and CARE has raised concerns about its location at the centre of school routes.
