BACK by popular demand at this year’s Bawming the Thorn is a very special fly past of a spitfire plane.
The event, which takes place on Saturday, celebrates its 41st anniversary this year and after the success of last year’s fly past, the committee have asked for the plane to come back again this year.
The annual event dates from the 19th century when it was part of the village walking day.
It stopped in the 1930s but was revived by Appleton Thorn School head teacher Bob Jones in 1973.
The parade will lead to the church at 12.45pm and the Bawming ceremony will start at 1pm with a performance from Appleton Thorn Primary School pupils.
Then there will be fancy dress and a fete on the village field afterwards.
