THE weight of an elephant was lifted to give a charity a cash injection.
Steve Edwards, aged 24, a deputy general manager at The Student Support Centre on Fir Tree Close, Stretton, ploughed in the pounds for World Vision’ Elephant Deterrent Project in Nalitabari, Bangladesh.
He lifted the equivalent of an elephant by raising 20kg weights two hundred times in under an hour – equal to four tonnes.
The money raised will fund special lights which will deter the elephants from entering a village as 30 homes have been destroyed this year by animals.
Steve, from Stockton Heath, said: “When we were told about the competition I joked that I could lift an elephant in order to raise some money.
“I didn’t expect everyone to take me seriously but they did.”
Steve raised more than £440 at the challenge on Friday.
