A RETIRED teacher has been learning the ropes from a former pupil at Cobbs Infant and Nursery School's weekly fitness club.

Three-time English Half Marathon winner Danny Cliffe, 25, runs the 'Family Funs' sessions at the Appleton school, on Wood Lane.

The aim of the programme is to encourage families to spend time playing together, while getting fitter in an enjoyable environment.

Each class consists of 'exciting and challenging' activities, inclusive to all abilities and age groups.

Youngsters are enjoying the initiative and instructor Danny has also been praised by a familiar face for his efforts.

Retired Bridgewater High School assistant head teacher Gerrie Shadwell, who used to teach Danny drama, attends the club with her two grandchildren.

She said: "He always had a lovely manner and that comes through now in how he deals with children of such a young age, as well as the adults.

"I feel privileged to attend his classes and admire the fact that he is a superb male role model in an infant school and nursery."

And Danny admits he is using some inspiration from his 'favourite teacher' during his days at Bridgewater.

He said: "She always made the lessons really interesting which is what I aim to do with Family Funs."
