PUPILS from Broomfields Junior School swapped the classroom for a Stockton Heath ice cream parlour last week as part of their Mediterranean theme.

Children from the school in Appleton, on Bridge Lane, made their way to Pure Indulgence, on London Road, to find out how crepes and waffles are made, as well as how the business runs.

Store manager Helen Harvey, who welcomed Stockton Heath Primary School students in May, was thrilled by the response of the youngsters during her demonstrations.

"They had a good experience here and I think they learned a good amount of information too," she said.

"I decided to show them how the crepes and waffles are made because of the Mediterranean theme they have got going on and thought it would be nice to do so.

"It was great to show them how they are made and it is great that it fits in with their class theme."

After displaying her skills, Helen offered the children the opportunity to do what they had all been waiting for – a chance to indulge in the tasty treats.

"Everyone was trying some so I think they liked that bit," she said.

The store has experienced an influx of customers as a result of the glorious conditions and Helen is also playing her part in giving shoppers something different.

"A lot more people are coming into the store and trying the ice creams and the milkshakes too," she added.

"The mint chocolate chip and strawberry milkshakes are quite popular at the minute.

"And because Wimbledon is on I have started doing a Eton mess sundae and strawberry shortcake ice cream.

"I try to link what we have in store to what is going on and hopefully people will continue coming in."

As well as new customers, the store also welcomed Mayor Cllr Geoff Settle last week.
