THEY will be flying the green flag once again at the Walton Lea Project.

The horticultural scheme based on Chester Road offers supported employment for adults who have learning difficulties, mental health issues and the early onset of Alzheimer’s.

And they along with its sister site at Long Lane in Orford, have been recognised by the Green Flag Scheme after being handed the status again for the upcoming year.

The Walton Lea Partnership was awarded the Community Green Flag status thanks to its community work in the borough and the wider area.

Commercial manager at the Walton Lea Partnership, Kate Fitch, said: “We’re extremely pleased to have been awarded Green Flag status for both of our sites as it’s a testament to everyone’s hard work and dedication. Since the charity was established in 1998, we have been committed to helping people in the community and making a real difference to their lives.

“The Green Flag Award also provides us with a quality stamp, which we hope will attract more visitors to the Walton Lea Walled Garden and Long Lane Garden Centre, which both sell a whole host of plants, vegetables, upcycled furniture and even restored bikes.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in the Walton Lea Partnership for their contiuned hard work.”

The Green Flag Scheme is judged against eight criteria including; horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and community involvement.

To date, the charity has provided training and employment for more than 80 adults in gardening, woodwork, floristry, conservation work and customer service.
