TWO youngsters swapped their normal half term fun to help others.

Amelia Thompson, from Higher Whitley, and Sofia Risino, from Stockton Heath, set up camp at Aldi in Stockton Heath to collect money for the homeless charity Shelter.

The 10-year-olds contacted the charity who sent them leaflets, badges, stickers and collection boxes to help with their effort.

The year five pupils at Withington Girls’ School in Manchester were hoping to collect £20 but ended up with more than £200.

Sofia said: “The bad weather prompted us to think about how we could help those in need of a safe and warm place on wet and windy nights and I have always had a passion to support people who are homeless and have given some of my pocket money.”

Amelia added: “The target we set was £20 but we actually raised £201.04, which was a big surprise.”
