Amber warning for Warrington motorists

MOTORISTS are being warned to take care as an amber warning for high winds has been issued for the region.

The warning has come from the Highways Agency who say the region will face winds of up to 60mph up to midnight tonight.

The whole of the region has suffered heavy rainfall over the last 48 hours with more predicted this weekend.

Drivers are being advised that wind and rain will combine this evening to make driving conditions difficult with visibility affected in places.

Drivers should slow down, use their vehicle lights, keep their distance and leave extra room for braking.

This afternoon, following Met Office advice, the Highways Agency has issued an Amber Alert for high-sided vehicles, caravans and motorbikes, whose drivers and riders are advised to take extra care when travelling due to the increased risk of vehicles being blown over.

They are also advised to avoid exposed stretches of road if at all possible.
