Details of Queen's visit to Orford Park on Thursday
1:47pm Monday 14th May 2012 in News
BOSSES at Warrington Borough Council have confirmed details of the visit of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh to town on Thursday.
They will be officially opening the newly named Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub as part of her tour of the regions.
She is expected to arrive mid morning from around 11am.
Here is a Q&A:
What time is the visit?
We expect the Royal party to arrive in Orford late morning (around 11am) on Thursday following their first engagement at Chester Zoo. The Royal party will be in Warrington for a relatively short time, around 40 minutes.
Immediately after our visit the Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh will be heading to Liverpool for a lunchtime tour of the Albert Docks.
Will there be any road closures on the day of the visit?
Just one, Jubilee Way (just off the A49) will be closed to traffic from 8am and some minor diversions will be in place. As the Royal party arrives in and departs the borough there will be a brief rolling road closure provided by the police, but all other roads are unaffected.
Please be aware that we are not able to confirm details of the Royal party's route(s) into/out of town as these are set by the Police.
Are there designated wheelchair areas and is there disabled parking available at the site?
Yes, both however are limited and on a strictly first come, first served basis.
Is there any public parking at Orford Park?
No, we have planned a great number of displays and activities at the site so there will be no public parking available at the site on the day.
Traffic cones will be out on surrounding residential streets on the day so it’s probably best to walk, get dropped off or take public transport.
We have arranged a special shuttle bus service to operate from the Market car park in the town centre, which will run twice every 20 minutes between 9am and 10.30am to Orford Park and from 1pm to 2pm on the return.
Will there be any seats for those with mobility issues?
There will be a small number of seats on the day; The Queen is touring the hub and the outdoor facilities as well so we can’t guarantee availability across the whole site.
Members of the public are however welcome to bring small, portable chairs if they wish.
Can I meet The Queen?
We have had to submit very detailed plans to the Palace along with a comprehensive guest list which have both been signed off, therefore no further changes or additions can be made at this time.
What will be happening on the day?
Community groups and children from nearby schools will be providing dance and sport displays, there will be a series of choirs and musical performances and much, much more.
After arriving The Queen will tour the grounds and the newly completed £30 million hub building, taking in the new café, library and learning spaces before officially opening it.
Can I have a look inside the hub building after the Royal Party has departed?
Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub opens its doors to the public from Friday onwards.

Let's face it to most people that's all she is - a celebrity, a somewhat older and, I suspect, less musically talented substitute for an X-factor winner.

The "go and love elsewhere" response is particuarly ludicrous - as is equating wanting a DEMOCRATICALLY elected and accountable head of state with communism.

Robert Mugabe was democratically elected, originally, and look what happened there. Monarchy is much cheaper than a Presidential system.
As for your comment about a presidential system being cheaper - that is patently untrue - try comparing the genuine cost of our monarchy with, for example the cost of the Irish and French presidency.

Mugabe was a "democratically" elected President, so I don't see your argument concerning culture etc.

Therefore it is entirely valid to give, just two of the many, examples where the presidential system is cheaper to show that it is entirely possible, indeed probable, that an elected head of state would be cheaper.
NickT. Try comparing the cost of the US Presidency, and stop cherry picking to suit your argument. Mugabe was a "democratically
" elected President, so I don't see your argument concerning culture etc.
Your comments about cherry picking are quite amusing considering your use of Mugabe as justification for our feudal head of state.

Yes it will appear slightly disappointing to some that the Royal Party will be only be in Warrington for forty minutes, but when you consider the sheer amount of towns and cities the Queen is visiting and also take into account her age, I can only applaud HM for what is a phenomenal effort.

old-codger wrote:I regret it if you misinterpreted my description of her office as a feudal anachronism as being personal abuse aimed at Mrs Windsor as an individual.
Well she isnt the last in the line, But you can live in hope, Readers only send out abuse to people who abuse, If they are not dishing out abuse to other readers then they are dishing it out to her majesty, As an old soldier I wont stand for it neither will a lot of other like minded readers. If these people dont like the monarchy they shouldnt make insulting comments about her to people who do because it will not be tollerated.
It is the outdated institution I have problems with, not the individual. The personal qualities of the current holder of this undemocratic nonsense are irrelevant.
If the council and parliament were to appoint full-time scholars to translate their minutes into latin, and provide real-time interpretation into middle-english during meetings they may well be fine fellows - just not appropriate in a 21st Century democracy.

Evidently Anti-Royalists(and yes...I am one) are not allowed an opinion then???
If someone can't make a valid point+voice an opinion without being attacked by the sycophantic Royalist mob, then there is indeed something wrong with this once civilised country!
People who are not articulate enough to have a reasoned debate without resorting to personal insults should maybe think twice about showing their ignorance....just saying...

they also dish out abuse when people's opinion's do not concur with theirs!
I suggest you live+let live+learn from the quote from Voltaire.....

1) I do not regard her undemocratic position as legitimate so prefer to refer to her in the way I would a married woman (an alternative would be Ms Windsor, if you prefer)
2) In a true 21st century democracy the monarchy should be irrelevant
3) I believe in people's psyche she is equated with other celebrities - singers, footballers etc.
4) Rather than refunds perhaps ALL funding should be cut except for those who opt in to paying - feudalists argue that everyone loves the monarchy - let's test that through who is willing to pay.

A new poll shows that 80 per cent of Britons want to remain subjects of the Queen, with just 13 per cent in favour of living in a republic, the lowest proportion for at least 20 years.
As recently as 2005, almost twice as many people were in favour of replacing the Queen with a president.
The poll is proof that the “Kate effect” since last year’s Royal wedding, coupled with a sense of patriotism stirred by the Diamond Jubilee, has paid huge dividends for the Royal family.
Immediately before the Royal wedding, just 75 per cent of Britons supported the monarchy, but since then the Duchess of Cambridge has become a fully-fledged working member of the Royal family and the Queen has embarked on a hugely successful Jubilee tour of the country.
The figures are revealed in a poll by Ipsos MORI, which has been canvassing opinion on the same subject every year since 1993.

I can assure you that there is no psychological illness known as DDWOS (Daring to disagree with Old-codger syndrome).
My views may or may not be in the minority (If they are without support why do you appear so paranoid about me expressing them?) If it is a minority view then it shares that with many causes that were championed by a minority but gained popular support and achieved change.

You will do the same as the majority of people and pay up. I dont agree with subsidising half of europe but I dont get a say in the matter and nothing I say will change it. I dont agree with other things that I cant change or not contribute to but I dont come on here insulting the people concerned just because I dont agree with it. You are one of the most ignorant, arrogant, bombastic and insulting persons that I have ever come across.

How much is the council spending on this 40 minutes, both in terms of additional cost and in man-hours diverted from other tasks?
What are the other costs to the taxpayer, outside the council's expenditure - including policing costs for this 40 minutes spent by this feudal anachronism, and her hangers on, in Warrington?
