Details of Queen's visit to Orford Park on Thursday
1:47pm Monday 14th May 2012 in News
BOSSES at Warrington Borough Council have confirmed details of the visit of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh to town on Thursday.
They will be officially opening the newly named Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub as part of her tour of the regions.
She is expected to arrive mid morning from around 11am.
Here is a Q&A:
What time is the visit?
We expect the Royal party to arrive in Orford late morning (around 11am) on Thursday following their first engagement at Chester Zoo. The Royal party will be in Warrington for a relatively short time, around 40 minutes.
Immediately after our visit the Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh will be heading to Liverpool for a lunchtime tour of the Albert Docks.
Will there be any road closures on the day of the visit?
Just one, Jubilee Way (just off the A49) will be closed to traffic from 8am and some minor diversions will be in place. As the Royal party arrives in and departs the borough there will be a brief rolling road closure provided by the police, but all other roads are unaffected.
Please be aware that we are not able to confirm details of the Royal party's route(s) into/out of town as these are set by the Police.
Are there designated wheelchair areas and is there disabled parking available at the site?
Yes, both however are limited and on a strictly first come, first served basis.
Is there any public parking at Orford Park?
No, we have planned a great number of displays and activities at the site so there will be no public parking available at the site on the day.
Traffic cones will be out on surrounding residential streets on the day so it’s probably best to walk, get dropped off or take public transport.
We have arranged a special shuttle bus service to operate from the Market car park in the town centre, which will run twice every 20 minutes between 9am and 10.30am to Orford Park and from 1pm to 2pm on the return.
Will there be any seats for those with mobility issues?
There will be a small number of seats on the day; The Queen is touring the hub and the outdoor facilities as well so we can’t guarantee availability across the whole site.
Members of the public are however welcome to bring small, portable chairs if they wish.
Can I meet The Queen?
We have had to submit very detailed plans to the Palace along with a comprehensive guest list which have both been signed off, therefore no further changes or additions can be made at this time.
What will be happening on the day?
Community groups and children from nearby schools will be providing dance and sport displays, there will be a series of choirs and musical performances and much, much more.
After arriving The Queen will tour the grounds and the newly completed £30 million hub building, taking in the new café, library and learning spaces before officially opening it.
Can I have a look inside the hub building after the Royal Party has departed?
Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub opens its doors to the public from Friday onwards.
