Warrington Wolves asked to allow banners in the Halliwell Jones Stadium

Wolves fans want to be allowed to hang up banners in the Halliwell Jones Stadium Wolves fans want to be allowed to hang up banners in the Halliwell Jones Stadium

PASSIONATE Warrington Wolves fans are urging the club’s powers to allow them to display banners at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Supporters’ banners backing Wolves’ cause – particularly those made by well known fan ‘Arsenal Al’ – have been seen at home and away grounds for decades but health and safety officers have prevented them from being put on display at Wolves’ den this year.

Al pointed out he was representing the views of many terracers when he said replicating the banner-decorated South Stand of Wigan Warriors’ DW Stadium would help to lift the atmosphere at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, which has been quieter than past seasons in 2012.

Wolves’ chief executive Andy Gatcliffe, who, along with the club’s directors has been sent letters of appeal from Arsenal Al, said the matter was being considered.

“The issue has been referred to our health and safety group meeting which will take place over the next few weeks.

“It’ll be discussed and we’ll take it from there.”

It is understood that one of the concerns is whether or not banners are flame retardent.

Bring back the Banners and bring back the Atmosphere at Halliwell, what is it with Health and Safety these days, if the banners are a fire risk, then why not get rid of the plastic seating, the programmes they sell

As usual these days H&S dictators deciding to warrant their own existence by making up rules that will be time consuming and convince the powers that be they are actually doing a valuable job. Sorry but at times I just despair.

i had changed stands for bradford match, due to low following hence me going in west stand to put 5 flags up,on doing this was told by stewards to take down the flags.a certain head of control would not come down to see me and explain the reasons why i couldnt keep them up as i wasnt covering advertising, posing no health and safety risk or obstructing views of other people.i got 3 different responses of the same guy,no fire certificate for flag, banned them at start of season, but allow widnes and cas to display them and best of all the sponsers/advertising hoardings do not want flags by there bill boards,so i said its all to do with money?yes said the steward,MONEY 1ST FANS 2ND.the flags are coming out tomorrow

It's a non smoking stadium, made of concrete & steel, what's the likelihood of them catching fire. Bonkers decision. I'll gladly sign any petition for their return.

Sounds like a prepared statement written by a bored/disinterested executive.
In English it says.....
"Go away and do not question people who know more than you, the decision is made so live with it"

Health and safety in this country is a joke. If the banners pose a fire risk, why not go the whole hog and ban fans from wearing clothes.

I also would like to see banners brought back used in a correct manner. However as a former Fire Safety Officer some of the comments made are rather unhelpful and ill informed. I seem to remember that there was a fire in this concrete stadium only two years ago (I wonder how that started). I also know that the Fire Safety Officer responsible for the Stadium over a number of years worked very hard for the club and its supporters to assist in providing an enjoyable day for all. Sadly it only takes one idiot to spoil a day and haven forbid cause a tragedy.

i think your wide of the mark, all we are saying is H&S is making a mockery of it all and most Stadiums have Banners week in week out, i dont even think the fire two years ago had anything to do with Banners but some idiot smoking

Please lets get our facts right;
Correct me if I am wrong ,
but as I seem to remember......
The fire in question was started in an unlocked storage cupboard that was the responsibilty of the club.
Nothing ..repeat.. Nothing to do with the fans on the terracing who were totally unaware of this malicious act.
Wasn't this how it was reported in this newspaper ?

I did not say that a banner had caused the fire. I simply highlighted that first of all we have had a fire and secondly and secondly the vast majority of fires are deliberate, not accidental.
