YOUNGSTERS playing in the town’s under 10s league paid tribute to a seven-year-old boy who collapsed last week while playing football.

Locking Stumps Primary School pupil Ciaran Geddes was enjoying a kick-about near the Birchwood school when he suffered a suspected heart problem and died.

Appleton boys under 10s coach Ian Holbrook said his players wanted to show their support for the family and wore t-shirts with Ciaran’s name and held a minute’s silence before their match on Tuesday night.

The former Bolton goalkeeper said: “In football we’re all one big family that sticks together no matter who you play for.

“We were so sorry to hear the news about Ciaran and our thoughts are with his family.”
