Warrington Borough Council had 15 staff earning more than £100k

FIFTEEN members of staff at Warrington Borough Council earned more than £100,000 a year in 2010/11 according to new figures.

The so-called Town Hall Rich List, collated by the TaxPayers’ Alliance, places Warrington midway in the country for the number of staff picking up more than £100,000.

Barnet has the highest number at 47.

Included in the list published today, Wednesday, is the figures for those individuals.

Rumeneration, including salary, pension payments and other incentives, included £198,519 for chief executive Diana Terris, £144,000 for Andy Farrall, director of environment and £131,811 for assistant chief executive Katherine Fairclough.

A spokesperson for Warrington Borough Council said: "Fifteen people were employed by the council on total remuneration packages (including employers' pension contributions) of over £100 000 in the 2010/11 financial year.

"Of these 15, two were only included once redundancy and/or compensation for loss of office payments were taken into account.

"A further six people were employed as agency staff on a band of £100 000 pro rata, although most of these were employed for shorter term contracts."

Warrington was originally listed fifth by the alliance but that was changed due to mistakes in calculations.

The sad thing with this is that it just doesn't surprise me.

The time has come for common sense with regard to salary. I can see no reason for *any* council employee to be paid more than £50,000 a year.

No doubt some will immediately pull their face and threaten to quit, go ahead your posts will be filled within minutes. As for you, you can join the great unwashed as was said to me the other day ""you can't be choosy in today's job market""

Don't be fooled by the valedictory comments, they are par for the course when this sort of thing happens. It's a convenient way of hiding differences of opinion. We should rejoice in the fact that at least our council budget will no longer be saddled with the outrageous cost of this lady's exorbitant salary and gold plated pension contributions. Let us hope the same will soon apply to the extortionate costs of the others you mention. The only lasting impression they leave is that of a miasma of maladministration, or as some have said something far worse.
