Marathon man to defy back injury

8:50am Wednesday 18th April 2012

A MAN recovering from a spinal operation earlier this year will be hoping to complete the London Marathon on Sunday.

Steven Hughes, from Appleton, will compete in the iconic race for the second year along with his brother Paul Redmond, from Bewsey.

The pair are hoping to raise more than £1,500 for Sense - a charity which supports Deafblind people.

For Steven, aged 43, this is his seventh marathon in 16 months while for 46-year-old Paul, it is the first.

Steven said: “The atmosphere last year was amazing and made me want to do it.

“I have only been back in training for eight weeks since the op so my main aim is to enjoy it, not chase a time.”
