FATHER’S Day will have a little extra significance for Wolves stars Paul Wood and Matt King this weekend with a couple of very special reasons to celebrate.

Paul’s wife Shelley gave birth to daughter Darcey Mae at 10.45am on June 3 at Wigan Hospital.

While Matt’s wife Kirsten made it a Wolves double when she gave birth to daughter Charlie June on Thursday.

Popular packman Paul celebrated the birth of his second child with two tries in the win against Crusaders and is now looking forward to getting double the amount of presents on Father’s Day.

The 29-year-old said: “Darcey was about a week late and Shelley started going into labour at 3am on the morning of the Crusaders game.

“When she went into labour I asked her if she thought she would have it before the game but she wasn’t too impressed.

“After the birth I was going to stay with her but she said to go to the game and get a try for George and Darcey so it was a fantastic to get one for each.”

The couple’s three-and-a-half-year-old son George picked his little sister’s name after he was given the choice of Darcey or Poppy.

Paul added: “He loves being a big brother. He said he wanted to have a sister and was going to look after her.

“I’m lucky because Shelley has been getting up in the night but so far Darcey has been a good baby and I very rarely hear her cry.”

The Wolves stalwart is currently juggling being a dad with starting a personal training business.

He added: “Hopefully I’ll be getting the Ferrari and Rolex this year.

“When I was a kid I used to hate buying presents but now I’m a father it’s quite exciting.”

Meanwhile, first time dad Matt, aged 30, has so far been a stay at home parent. He was a late withdrawal from the England versus Exiles game on Friday, 24 hours after Charlie June’s arrival, and missed Wolves defeat at home to Salford on Sunday.

The laid back Aussie said: “The whole experience is mind blowing.

“It was like being a 10-year-old and Christmas Day had come early. It is unbelievable that this can happen to a human being.

“My little daughter is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”

No doubt he will be hoping to make a similar return to his team-mate tomorrow and celebrate Father’s Day with a try when he is expected to return to the Wolves side at Hull Kingston Rovers.
