Brian Carney in line for Warrington Wolves debut against St Helens, Briers set to return

BRIAN Carney is set to make his Warrington debut in Saturday's Super League clash with St Helens.

The Irish winger has made two appearances for Wolves' reserves while awaiting his chance and scored his first try in primrose and blue against Celtic Crusaders Reserves on Saturday.

But the former Great Britain international is now deemed ready for first-team action and is set to be included in Tony Smith's 17 for the visit of Saints.

Lee Briers also looks set to make his return from injury against his old club.

The long-serving half back is included in the 19-man squad after overcoming a hamstring problem that has kept him out of the last three games.

In his absence, Simon Grix has stepped up to the mark well at stand off, while Jon Clarke and Michael Monaghan have both assumed added playmaking responsibilities, so it will be interesting to see if Tony Smith opts for a complete reshuffle.

The only players missing for Wolves are Paul Rauhihi, who is still suffering with a back injury, and long-term absentee Mickey Higham, who is recovering after an operation on his bicep.

Wolves' 19-man squad: Louis Anderson, Vinnie Anderson, Chris Bridge, Lee Briers, Brian Carney, Garreth Carvell, Jon Clarke, Mike Cooper, Simon Grix, Ben Harrison, Chris Hicks, Paul Johnson, Matt King, Richard Mathers, Michael Monaghan, Adrian Morley, Chris Riley, Ben Westwood, Paul Wood.
