FOR most people, running 10 miles is challenge enough.
But a Culcheth father will be covering the distance complete with a 35lb rucksack on his back to rise vital funds.
Kevin Barlow, from Severn Road in the village, takes part in a 10-mile endurance race in Catterick in September.
The race takes place across the Yorkshire Dales and is set to be a gruelling challenge.
Mr Barlow was inspired to take on the challenge after seeing his son Lewis return from service in Afghanistan.
He said: “Recent events have got me thinking how fortunate I am to have my son Lewis who is serving in the 2nd battalion parachute regiment, and has been since 2005.
“Him returning home from Afghanistan has made me realise that not all of the families of servicemen and women in the armed forces, are as lucky as I am.
“I am taking part in this in the event so that enough money will be raised to benefit members who have, and are, serving in the airborne forces and the rest of the British Army.”
He is raising money for the Airborne Forces Charities group.
The charity is a grant giving foundation which helps the wellbeing of serving and retired soldiers of the Parachute Regiment, associated units and youth organisations.
