Treats given away

SLIMMERS in Lymm gave up their Christmas treats to help homeless people living in Warrington through the Salvation Army.

Mike O’Crowley, who runs the classes at Lymm Scout Hut each Tuesday, arranged an amnesty where people could get rid of any tempting but naughty food left over from the holidays and also help those less fortunate than themselves.

Out of his three groups, he left with four bin bags filled with food and people also handed over toiletries to help the homeless.

Mike said: “When I came up with the idea before Christmas, everyone in the group was really supportive and a lot of members said it made them realise how much we take for granted.

“Christmas is a time when many people can enjoy luxuries in life but other people aren’t so fortunate.

“I went down to the Salvation Army shelter that is run for homeless men in Warrington to deliver the donations myself and it was so humbling.”

Mike runs a class at Pepper Street in Lymm every Tuesday at 9am, 5.30pm and 7.30pm. Call 07867 531764 to find out more.
