A LATCHFORD bodywork repairs service has assisted Cheshire Police in its sting operation to combat the increase of bike theft in the town.

To promote awareness, bikes will soon be deployed across Warrington in fluorescent colours to raise awareness and deter potential thieves, while promoting the use of tracker technology by the police.

Bodyworx, based on Manor Industrial Estate, has painted the bikes, with locks provided by Warrington Partnerships.

"We want potential thieves to know we are on their case, that the next bike they steal might see them feel the long arm of the law, quicker than they imagine," said a Cheshire Police spokesman.

The force is is urging cyclists to seek advice from stores on how to keep their property safe and is calling for high quality locks to be bought.

Sites such as Strava, which records routes and can publish the a cyclists' journey on social media, have been highlighted as a potential cause to the problem.

PCSO Stephen Blake, who is based at Stockton Heath Police Station, said: "Protect your privacy and lock it down - you do not want to direct criminals to your doorstep to deprive you of your prized possession."

Colin Boyce , owner of Bodyworx, added: "Having been a victim of this type of crime, I jumped at the chance of putting my name and company to the project."
