30 customers make
the trip to seaside to
meet up with former
window cleaner

CUSTOMERS of a popular window cleaner organised a trip to see him in his new home.

Reg Hazell ran around in Grappenhall for more than 40 years but in 2010, he suffered a serious illness.

His spine was badly damaged when an abcess burst, leaving him in a wheelchair.

He now lives in a home run by SUAG (SPinal Unit Action Group) in Birkdale near Southport.

To coincide with the Southport Flower Show, Mike and Glenis Naylor arranged a coach trip to take 30 of his former customers to see him.

Mike said: “This outing was a clear indication of the esteem in which Reg is still held in Grappenhall, since 30 people, many of whom have know Reg for many years, were looking forward to meeting up with him.

“And quite a few more who were unable to make the journey took the trouble to send their best wishes together with cards and gifts.”

The group enjoyed afternoon tea with Reg at the show.

Reg, who used to live on Rowland Close, noticed his shoulders were getting sore so went to Warrington Hospital for a scan in December 2010.

The Everton and Warrington Wolves fan, later discovered an abcess on his neck had been causing the pain.

That had burst, damaging his spinal column and leaving him paralysed.
