Nursery news

STAFF and youngsters at Springwood Nursery in Penketh have been celebrating after their Ofsted rating leapt from 'Inadequate' to 'Good' in six months following a recent inspection.

The Warrington Guardian had previously reported the nursery and link club, based on Chapel Road, dropped to 'Inadequate' after inspectors found a member of staff's suitability had not been checked and was sometimes left unsupervised with children.

But after visiting before Christmas, inspectors said in their latest report children are protected from harm because managers ensure that staff have a 'robust induction'.

The report added: "Staff are proactive in teaching children to develop healthy habits, such as by taking part in exercise, brushing teeth and hand washing.

"Children form warm, responsive relationships with their key person, who knows them well and partnerships with parents are good."

To be outstanding, the report adds children need more opportunities outdoors.

Marvin Oni, one of the nursery's directors, said: “We have now been rated as good and will continue improving to make it an even better facility.

"We are near the outstanding mark and will be hoping to reach that soon.”

Marina Avenue made a priority

CSOS in the Great Sankey area have made Marina Avenue one of their priorities throughout January.

After complaints of ongoing issues with cars using the road as a shortcut through the lights, patrols have been stepped up and action taken against vehicles causing offences.

CSO Ste Heaps has been monitoring the situation as well as cars using a road signposted as 'access only'.
