A DEDICATED Chapelford fundraiser has been doing her bit for Cancer Research in memory of her dad.

Laura Keig hosted a charity barbecue in the summer with special appearances from Disney princesses and this month organised a girls' night in with 20 friends and family to raise money for the cause.

The 29-year-old has been keen to raise as much cash as possible for the charity after losing her dad, who would have been 50 next summer, when she was aged 16 after an eight-year battle with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

Laura's granddad also died of cancer two years ago and her nan in May of womb cancer aged 74.

She added: "I do the Race for Life each year as well as as much fundraising as I can for Cancer Research.

"It's so important to me and my family.

"I regularly meet up with the Cancer Research rep for fundraising ideas and have previously visited the labs in Manchester as a visitor and was shown around and met survivors and listened to their stories.

"It was such an inspirational day and every time I go I want to do more to fundraise."

The pjs and onesies night in helped raise £521.90 thanks to some generous donations of raffle prizes from businesses, friends and family during a raffle while a charity pink 90s zumba event at Chapelford Village Primary School on Monday was also hailed a success.

But Laura has now got her sights on next year with the hope of organising a black tie ball

She added: "Next year I will be setting up our own Warrington group raising awareness and funds for Cancer Research UK.

"I've been overwhelmed with everyone's support and everyone has been fantastic in helping me fundraise this year."

Stephanie Dagger, Cancer Research UK’s fundraising manager for Warrington, said: “Laura is an absolute inspiration and we can’t thank her enough for her continued support and dedication.”
