GREAT Sankey residents are coming together today, Thursday, to clean up the roads in their area.
Warrington Borough Council’s neighbourhood, public protection and street services are supporting the Huntley Street clean-up to help residents tackle issues including fly tipping and littering.
Residents can meet at 10am and after the clean-up will enjoy a children’s activity event in Marina Avenue Park with Sankey Valley Children’s Centre from 1pm.
Landlords in the area will also be contacted to get involved in keeping the area clean with advice and support on the day including free bin stickers.
Clr David Keane, executive board member for environment and public protection, said: “It costs £74m nationally to remove and dispose of fly tipped waste.
“The removal of waste, which has been illegally dumped in our streets, is placing a real strain on our services not to mention the blight on our communities.
“The council is constantly working to help people dispose of their waste correctly and are determined to take action against those who continue to fly tip.
“We can’t tackle these things alone and need people to come forward and help look after their own communities.”
The Great Sankey councillor added he was ‘delighted’ residents, councillors and officers from the council had come together to find a solution and were working together to tackle the problem.
