PUT a note in your diary as the date of Westbrook’s Big Party has been announced.

The event will be held on Friday, June 17, from 5.30pm to 9pm at Gulliver's World in Old Hall.

Entry is free.

Alan Guthrie, chairman of the Westbrook and Callands Communities, said: "We are an association of residents trying to improve community cohesion and the level of engagement by local people in Westbrook and Callands.

"Our party, kindly hosted free of charge by Gulliver’s World, offers a venue for people to find out what is on offer locally, whilst at the same time having fun."

YOUTHS from St Helens and Burtonwood have been identified following a small fire in woodland on Gorsey Lane.

Firefighters were called to the site on March 21 following reports of a blaze.

PCSO Stephen Heaps from Warrington Police said: "We received a call to state that there was a large amount of smoke coming from a wooded area next to the play park on Gorsey Lane in Burtonwood.

"When we arrived it was just over the border in Merseyside.

"As we approached the area a number of youths made off towards St.Helens.

"Details were taken of youths that remained in the area – some were from St Helens and some from Burtonwood.

"They stated that they had been camping in the area. There was a number of small fires and evidence that trees had been set a light.

"The matter was left with Merseyside Fire Service to deal with and the details of the youths have been passed to our community safety team."

Tickets are £5 and can be purchased from the school on Milnthorpe Road.

POLICE have vowed to increase patrols in hotspots areas for anti-social behaviour.

Officers have received reports of youths causing problems at Callands Primary School, Gemini Retail Park and the Westbrook Centre during the evenings.

Police say they will work with parents and other agencies to tackle this issue, which has been listed as a priority for the area.
